His stats came in at 17 pounds, 23 ounces (38th percentile), 26.75 inches (56th percentile), and head at 17.32 inches (52nd percentile).
He was in pretty good spirits at the doctor, but again, did not like getting two shots. Mom didn't go with him when he got weighed this time, and heard cries not long after he and the nurse left the room. Much to Cole's dismay, there was a line at the scale, and the baby being weighed started crying. Cole felt bad for the baby and decided to start crying as well. He came back to the room with a huge sad face and big old crocodile tears running down his cheeks (nothing some cuddles from Mom couldn't fix!).
Dr. M was pleased with his growth and overall health.
Cole continues to be a tough little guy to figure out. Smiles don't come easy (but whining does), and that can be pretty frustrating. No all out laughs yet - he's sticking with "huh huh" for now. (When Mom questioned this, Dr. M's response was, "You wouldn't want to smile or laugh a lot either if you spent the first 6 months of your life not feeling well." Good point.). He still doesn't like tummy time, and rolls from his tummy to his back all of the time. He's getting better at sitting up, and can now sit on his own for a little bit. His ring stackers help keep him interested in staying upright.
He still loves chewing on his fingers (and more recently his feet). He likes all of his fingers, but seems to favor his index finger when he really gets going.
He's starting to vocalize more. It's more yelling than babbling.
He loves petting and grabbing on to his Ralphie.
He's finally tall enough for his jumper, and is starting to really like bouncing around, and grabbing on to all of the toys.
He was evaluated by Infant & Toddler Services a couple weeks ago, per the recommendation of his pediatrician. They agreed that he does have a bad latch on his bottle, and are going to help us get that straightened out. They're also going to help with some of his motor development as well. Because he doesn't like being on his tummy, he's a little behind in some areas. We'll start up within the next couple of weeks!
Cole was cleared to start solid foods. Because Mom has had some troubles with grains (and Cole seems to take after her from an allergy perspective), we'll hold off on cereals and will start with fruits and veggies. Carrots first! We can't wait to see what he thinks!
Cheeks continues to be an early riser and wakes each morning anywhere from 4:45 to 5:45. Some mornings he'll fall back asleep. Other mornings he'll chat to himself and flop around in bed. He did sleep straight until 7:30 the other morning (we were convinced that either something was wrong with him, or that Ralphie switched him with another baby during the night), so we know he can do it! Feel free to make that more of a habit, Buddy!
We love you lots, Big Boy! Happy 6 months!
We love you, Cole! Lots of cuddles! He already looks older from last week!
